La Catrina calaca

La Catrina – Day of the Dead Nutcracker

$ 140

Our Catrina Calaca Nutcracker is dressed in a satin dress and hat that is beautifully decorated with black lace.  Her hat is ornamented with feathers and colorful flowers and she is adorned with pearl jewelry and ribbons in her hair, which is the way she is pictured in photos made by José Guadalupe Posada and Diego Rivera’s Sunday Evening’s Dream.

La Catrina’s dress is available in purple, dark midnight blue, or burgundy. When ordering please specify the color you prefer.

Jose Guadalupe Posada, was a lithographer and print maker in Mexico’s pre-Revolution times; he is best known for the creation of La Calaca Garbancera, that later became La Catrina, the iconic skeleton lady used during the Day of the Dead celebrations and many folk art styles. Posada is considered by scholars the father of Mexican modern art.
